About Dr. Zainab

Dr. Zainab Ali is a Senior Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Muscat Private Hospital, where she has worked since 2015. She has practised in the specialty since 1999.

Dr. Zainab graduated MBBS from Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi in 1998 and began her career in obstetrics and gynaecology the following year, completing her postgraduate qualification in 2005. In 2007 she joined Fatimiyah Hospital in Karachi, a tertiary and teaching hospital, as Chief Medical Officer and Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, remaining there until 2015. She was recognised there in 2010 as a "Pioneer and Role Model" for her leadership and patient care.

She has continued to train throughout her career, taking the Diploma of Women's Health (DoWH) in Ireland in 2022, a Fellowship in Aesthetic Gynaecology in the United States, and Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (MRCPI OB&GYN) in 2025. In 2026 she completed Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training (PROMPT) in the United Kingdom.

Her practice covers pregnancy from booking through to delivery and the weeks afterwards, including pregnancies that need closer monitoring, alongside general gynaecology and minimally invasive surgery. She sees women for menstrual problems, PCOS and hormonal disorders, fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain, recurrent miscarriage and menopausal symptoms, and provides contraception and cervical screening.

Dr. Zainab works in maternal health research and is the focal point for the Ministry of Health's Maternal Near-Miss Study in Oman, the national study of women who survive severe complications of pregnancy and childbirth. That work is about understanding why complications escalate and how they are caught earlier, and it informs how she approaches risk in her own clinic.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Zainab covers pregnancy care from the first visit through to delivery and the postnatal period, including pregnancies needing closer monitoring. In gynaecology she sees women with heavy or irregular periods, PCOS and hormonal problems, fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain, infections, recurrent miscarriage and menopausal symptoms, and provides contraception, cervical screening and initial fertility assessment.
Dr. Zainab consults in English, Urdu and Arabic.
It means a pregnancy where you or the baby need watching more closely than usual — for example diabetes or high blood pressure in pregnancy, a previous Caesarean or preterm birth, twins, a concern about the baby's growth, or an existing medical condition. In practice it means more frequent visits, extra scans and a delivery plan agreed in advance. It does not mean something will go wrong; it means the plan is built around the possibility.
A "near miss" is a woman who survives a life-threatening complication of pregnancy or childbirth. Studying these cases — rather than only the rare deaths — is how maternity services find out where care breaks down and what warning signs get missed. Dr. Zainab is the focal point for the Ministry of Health's national study of these cases in Oman. It is research rather than a clinical service, but it is the reason she pays close attention to early warning signs in her own patients.
Often, yes. Many women who have had one Caesarean can safely plan a vaginal birth next time, and many choose to. It depends on why the first Caesarean was done, how the scar healed, how this pregnancy is progressing and what you want. Both a planned repeat Caesarean and a vaginal birth after Caesarean carry their own risks, and neither is automatically the safer choice. Dr. Zainab will go through both with you well before your due date, not on the day.
No. Dr. Zainab provides initial fertility assessment — working out why conception is not happening, checking ovulation and hormones, treating conditions such as PCOS, and advising on timing and next steps. Where assisted reproduction is needed, she will explain what that would involve and refer you appropriately.
Dr. Zainab holds an MBBS from Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi, MCPS from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, and a Diploma in Gynaecology and Obstetrics from Ireland.
Yes. Dr. Zainab is a female obstetrician and gynaecologist, and a female nurse or chaperone can be present for any examination. Tell reception when you book if you have a preference about who is in the room.
