About Dr. Sheikhan

Dr. Sheikhan is a Senior Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon, and Head of the Plastic Surgery Department at Muscat Private Hospital. He previously headed the Plastic Surgery Department at Khoula Hospital in Muscat.

He is a board-certified plastic surgeon who trained in Canada and the United States, holding the FRCS of Canada together with fellowship training in both Paediatric Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

His practice spans the full range of plastic surgery. On the aesthetic side this includes body contouring, facial rejuvenation and breast surgery. On the reconstructive side it includes reconstruction of the face, head and neck, repair of facial trauma, reconstruction following burns and after skin cancer removal, and surgery for facial palsy.

He also has a particular interest in paediatric plastic surgery, including cleft lip and palate repair, congenital hand anomalies, prominent ears and tongue tie.

Dr. Sheikhan places emphasis on careful assessment and open discussion before any procedure, so that patients understand what a given operation can and cannot achieve, what recovery involves, and what the risks are, before deciding whether to proceed.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Sheikhan is a plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgeon. His reconstructive work covers cleft lip and palate, facial trauma, burns, reconstruction after skin cancer removal, breast reconstruction and facial palsy surgery. His aesthetic work covers body contouring, facial rejuvenation and breast surgery.
Reconstructive surgery restores form and function after a congenital difference, injury, burn or cancer treatment. Cosmetic surgery changes the appearance of a structure that is already functioning normally. Many techniques are shared between the two, and some operations, such as breast reconstruction after cancer, sit in both categories.
The first consultation is an assessment and a discussion rather than a booking. It covers your medical history, an examination, what the operation involves, what results are realistically achievable in your case, the recovery period, the risks and possible complications, and any alternatives — including not having surgery. You should leave with enough information to take your time over the decision.
No. All surgery carries risk, healing varies from person to person, and no surgeon can guarantee a specific outcome. Some procedures need revision, and scarring is a normal part of healing from any operation. An honest discussion about what is and is not achievable is part of the assessment, and it is reasonable to ask about the limits of a procedure as well as its benefits.
Cleft repair is usually staged, with lip repair generally carried out in the early months of life and palate repair later in the first year or so, though timing is individual and depends on the child’s growth and health. Cleft care is long-term and involves a team including speech therapy, dentistry and ENT alongside surgery.
Please bring a list of your current medications and supplements, details of any previous surgery, any relevant scans or reports, and information about medical conditions, allergies and whether you smoke — all of which affect healing and surgical planning.
